The think I find most difficult in writing academically is organization. For me I have no problems generating ideas for a specific topic but when I try to organize my thoughts, this is where I struggle. I have a tendency to elaborate on my supporting ideas but then I tend to stray away from my topic and talk about something else. It is much easier to write creatively I think because there is no pressure as compared to writing for a class. I can free write and express my ideas clearly enough for the reader to grasp my thesis right away. Integrating sources is difficult at first but after you are able to find one great source, that will lead to the next good source. It is almost a domino effect once you are able to find the initial source because you then have some ideas about your next source.

I sometimes have the same problem. I usually take a piece of paper and write stuff down that is related just to my topic. After that it is easier to organize everything and stay on topic. I have a harder time starting a paper because once I start it all fits together after I write it all down.
I can see how you feel. It is easy to stray away from the topic for us, when we use brain storm. I think writing an outline about supporting ideas must be helpful. Yes, sources are usually are linked. This allows us to find sources quickly. On the other hand finding reliable sources are also important.
Hi Mclovin,
Organization is difficult and important to an essay. Especially, when I did not write a research paper, I would lose my mind about what I was writing. Organization is always my disadvantage in my essay. Sometimes, I forgot to put my thesis statement to be the first sentence of the first paragraph and make the first sentence be the topic sentence.
